What is the meaning of Self Employed Health Insurance?

Self-employed health insurance is a form of medical insurance that provides self-employed access to personal health care to cover the cost of your treatment. The growing army of UK’s self-employed workers – both the sole traders and the directors of the company – rarely get sick pay and therefore can not afford to work long hours to treat NHS.

There are many additional options but the foundation of private medical insurance is made on two types of cover:

  • For an indent cover, you need to be hospitalized and occupy the bed for at least one night and most of the health insurance plans are covered completely.
  • An outpatient cover is often an additional option which covers clinical trials and any process that does not require the use of hospital beds.

In addition to this basic cover, medical insurance policies often have many other options, including rehabilitation treatment, mental health treatment, non-immediate optical and dental treatment as well as comprehensive coverage for cancer treatment.

How to claim self-employed health insurance?

After getting the condition to be diagnosed by your GP or specialist and open referrals, you can contact your insurance provider to start treating your problem on an approved personal facility. With your policy, you will be given a hospital list that shows you that you are eligible for your treatment, some insurers have given you the option of expanding your hospital list in a wide range of private hospitals. When your claim is approved for treatment, then your insurer will either recommend a special hospital for you, or you will be able to choose which hospital will be the most convenient for you. Your insurer will provide you with an authorization letter that will take you when you go for your treatment. This acts as proof of your approved claim for treatment and informs you of personal care where your treatment will be paid. After your treatment, the cost will be required to pay directly to the private hospital – including your insurer or partly and any additional costs – any extra.

Cover type

This is the level on which the policy will be involved;

Basic cover – in this cover range, they will provide you with only diagnostics or cover for treatment only. Some basic policies also provide cancer cover.

Mid-range cover– In this cover range, they will provide full treatment and cancer cover with limited cover of diagnostics.

Comprehensive cover-In this cover range, they will provide you full cover of various value added extra including diagnostic treatment and cancer cover as well as supplemental treatment and dental.

Features Explained:

Treatment

This indicates that the cost of medical inpatient treatment (operations, drugs, surgery, physiotherapy, follow-up counseling, etc.) is fully involved with the policy or not, based on any monetary amount.

Diagnosis

This indicates whether the outpatient provides counseling, testing and scanning to diagnose the policy. It may be completely inclusive, partially (up to a certain cost level) or not at all.

Cancer

This indicates whether the policy covers the treatment of cancer (radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, drugs) to full or a certain monetary limit.
